Norman Music Festival 10 will be held on April 27, 28 and 29, 2017.

NMF is about to turn a decade old, and the festival and its organizers have a lot to look back on over the years. Since starting ten years ago, the festival has grown from a single day festival to three days with over 350 performing acts. Last year, the organizers were able to pay all of the performers thanks to grants, sponsors and crowd-funding support.

For Norman Music Festival 9, the festival saw its highest attendance as well as its highest economic impact for the city of Norman. All across downtown Norman, more than 100,000 people came to see Milo, Open Mike Eagle, NOBUNNY, Gazzo, Nikki Lane, Small Black and Cloud Nothings.

Even with so many people in attendance, it did not stop Norman from seeing a huge growth in its economic impact either. After conducting surveys downtown, Norman saw a $4 million impact over the three-day weekend.

One addition the festival saw for year nine was the addition to an executive director. Shari Jackson, who will continue as the festival’s director, has loved the festival since year one and continues to see potential with new events, bigger headliners and more music in downtown Norman.

“I have loved walking the streets of downtown Norman and hearing so much great music,” Jackson said. “Norman Music Festival has evolved into a great showcase of Oklahoma music from so many genres and introduced terrific regional bands to Norman audiences.”

Before announcing the newest headliners to start a new decade for this indie music festival, the festival worked with Matt Goad of GoadAbode to create a logo to represent people moving toward the music and the music being amplified to the audience.

The mission of the Norman Music Alliance is to help develop the arts community in Oklahoma through support of local original artists, support of music fans, support of art education and support of local businesses. What started as a one-day festival has now grown and expanded to a three-day festival with over 350 artists in Norman and over 100,000 people in attendance at Norman Music Festival 9.
